Cortona, a small town in southern Tuscany where Villanovans and Etruscans lived, was chosen for the filming of Under the Tuscan Sun where Frances Mayes, the creator of this romantic American novel, still lives in the house then purchased – Bramasole. The town was also the birthplace of Pietro della Cortona, the creator of the Baroque style and one of the most active artists in Florence at the time of the interior decoration of the Pitti Palace.
