Bolgheri is a small picturesque village, a fortress, located in Western Tuscany, 5 km from the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Maremma area, which is said to have been co-founded by Bulgarians in the 13th-14th centuries. The area has been producing French varieties of cabernet, merlot and syrah vines for 20-30 years used in the making of Super Tuscan wines. World famous are the wineries of Antinori, Ornellaia, Sassicaia and others. Thanks to the mild Mediterranean climate, the French neighbors, or cousins as the French are called in Italy, are greatly competed. Nearby, passing along the Cypress Road, is the historic village of Castagneto Carducci, where the famous Italian writer and poet Giosuè Carducci lived. REMOVE
