The tour is an enogastronomic one, including the medieval fortress of Montalcino, which is the southern defense of the town of Siena. One of Italy’s most famous wines Brunello di Montalcino is produced in the vicinity of the town and the tour can include a tasting tour at one of the Brunello boutique producers accompanied by wine tasting and lunch.
The tour then continues into the Val Dorcia valley with its hilly landscapes of cypress trees where several films have been shot, which you will find out about during the tour.
Next, visit to the ideal city, a fortress built literally in a couple of years by the famous Renaissance architect Bernardo Rossellino and commissioned by Pope Pius II, a true jewel of architecture possessing all the characteristics of a city, along with the Pope’s palace and the cathedral. There’s an option to taste the famous sheep cheese (Pecurino di Pienza) and finish with a visit to the Montepulciano fortress where film productions compete with each other to shoot films on medieval topics having every reason to display history ranging from the 12th to the 17th century without any need for artificial sets. It is here that the famous wine Nobile di Montepulciano is also produced. It’s where we can visit one of the cellars and get a feeling of the Tuscan countryside with Tuscan cuisine, slow food style.
